You're a business owner, working hard to get your job done to the best of your ability while keeping your customers and clients happy... You know you need a website, and you know your value, but you just can't seem to get over the start line.
Perhaps you have several unfinished documents you started, where you wrote up potential things to have on your website...Perhaps you can't stomach the idea of a photoshoot, so you'd rather just use Facebook - it's free, right? Maybe Instagram is better for your younger customers/clients/target market - you can share photos, meaningful words, tips, insights, testimonials there, right? Ooh, you've had a look at Tiktok - yeah - very young target market and things definitely don't need to be very polished, right? All these platforms are getting you to do their work - you are proliferating their use. Are they helping you? Are they securing clients for you? Clients who may want to do a bit of research before they use your company? Yes, those clients may check out your social platforms, but with no website of your own, you have much less authority and certainly less perceived trust. And what if any of those social media accounts get hacked...where will your customers find out about you and your services?
Maybe you know you're overdue for a website, but it just seems too much to organise. Maybe you're just confused about how much it's all going to cost? What is the cost of a web designer? Web hosting? How much will a domain name cost? What are the ongoing costs? It all feels too much - like a trap!
Then there are all these emails arriving daily offering SEO and absolute bargain builds! Who are they? Why are they being sent from 'hotmail' addresses or 'gmail' addresses? Are they trustworthy? Are they legitimate? Most likely not. Well, those are the exact questions your potential clients will be asking when they see you don't even have a one-page web presence.
It's better to have something than have nothing. Get a website up. Build up your content with time - find questions you keep having to answer and write about them. Build content of your own, share your testimonials - get that site up.
You can do it yourself
Yes, yes you can. You are a business owner who knows everything about your business. Yes, you can build it on Wix, on Wordpress, on Squarespace - whatever. A quick word of warning, it may take a lot of time and effort. And potentially a bit of rage. (There is no rage like technical rage where something doesn't do what you want it to do!). There are all sorts of design dos and don'ts that you may not be aware of and that may be to the detriment of your brand.

Wait. Did you pay attention to the colour specifications and font specifications for your brand ? (Do you even have them? Are they even important?).
Are you certain that the website you build will perform properly on a phone? What about on a tablet? What is this witchery that makes things go in different orders when you look at it on a phone?!

Wouldn't it be great if you had a website that worked across all platforms as it should, had all the up-to-date information on it, was something you were proud of, and was something you could edit?
What about uploading a photo album - wouldn't that be cool to be able to do? Or maybe write a blog? What about displaying a great new testimonial someone sent in?

Catriona has been meaning to get her website up and running f-o-r-e-v-e-r. She meant to do it herself. She started many times. Finally we had a meeting and I sent her a proposal. We went from there: an initial design: does this look like your brand? Yes. Does this speak with your voice? Yes. Great!
We moved from challenge to challenge, page to page and got everything that needed to be done completed. Step by step, avoiding the overwhelm. We even got a photoshoot completed. I'm so proud of Catriona for getting this over the line. Now we are waiting on blog articles to add to the content. Step by step we will build it.
